CASA stands for court appointed special advocates. We train, support, and guide volunteers who advocate for abused neglected children in the foster care system. Last year we had 383 volunteers advocate for over 850 children in our four county area. Each child has a unique story, and our model of one advocate to one case allows each child to feel heard and valued. One of our priorities this year is to better represent our children and their diversity, including race, gender, and life experiences. If you have ever thought about helping a child in foster care please join us for a 101 information session. We hold them the third Thursday of every month at 10 am and 6 pm. You can sign up on our website nwacasa.org, click the logo above for more information, or on Facebook at casa of nwa.
The Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter is an emergency children's shelter for children who have suffered the trauma of abuse, abandonment, and neglect or are victims of child trafficking. In our 30 year history we have provided safety and healing to over 13,000 children and teens. When a child walks through our doors they receive so much more than a safe place to sleep. While in our care they receive counseling, medical and dental care, and a trauma centered education at our on site school. All designed to help them to begin to heal from the trauma they have endured. The length of time that a child can stay at the shelter varies from a few days to a few months, the reality is that we ensure that every child has a safe place to be and a loving environment to be in. It's because of the community and the support of individuals like you that make the shelter the safe and loving space it is for children to begin to heal. This new 82,000 square foot plus facility will really enhance our opportunity to feed our neighbors in need. We have had a lot of support from major donors to this point, but it is the community's food bank and we want you to feel like you can be a part of it. At AAO we are passionate about sports and the vital role it can play in our communities. We strive to give every child a great sports experience by providing access to quality facilities and a safe positive environment. With two facilities that serve Washington and Benton counties young people and families have more access to AAO than ever before. At AAO programing focuses on the development of kids. The better skilled a player is the more they will enjoy playing, the more fun they will have, and the longer they will participate. We also make sure kids are playing at a competition level that matches their athletic ability. We believe this to be key because if the level of competition far exceeds their ability they will become discouraged and quit playing. If its not challenging enough they will become board and develop a false sense of reality. At AAO we strive to help educate and encourage our coaches to make sports participation a transformational experience for our young players. Kids grow and develop better when they are in a great environment. For more information click the logo above.
